If you have a small bedroom, you might have a really difficult time fitting in the full bedroom set, including nightstands, a dresser, and the bed itself. You might feel like having all of this furniture in your room makes your bedroom feel cramped and claustrophobic. However, you need to be sure that you have enough room for all of your personal possessions that you want to store in your bedroom. Here are some interior design tips for making the most out of your small space.
1. Hang Up Your Headboard
The headboard tends to be important in order to clarify the lines of your bed and separate them from the lines of the wall. A headboard can make your bed look much more aesthetically pleasing. However, a headboard takes up extra space and can force your bed away from the wall by one or two inches. Instead of purchasing a traditional headboard, consider using a hanging headboard, or one that hangs above your bed and ends where the top of your bed begins. There are many different headboard options that you can find online. All you need to install the headboards are a hammer, nails, and the headboard itself.
2. Install Drawers Under Your Bed
You can use the space underneath your bed, but can't make the space above your bed nearly as useful. Consider installing small sets of drawers underneath your bed after lofting it so that it's higher off the ground. Another option is to purchase a bed that has built-in drawers underneath the bed. These drawers can have the same functionality as the drawers in a traditional dresser, allowing you to ditch the dresser and open up your room so that it feels airier.
3. Utilize Mirrors
Install mirrors around your bedroom in order to trick the eye into making it seem larger and to capture the light. You can purchase mirrored wallpaper or wall decals that are self-adhesive, allowing you to install them with virtually no effort.
4. Get a Clothing Rack
If you don't have room for a built-in closet or any bureau, consider purchasing a clothing rack where you can hang the clothes that need to not be wrinkled. A clothing rack takes up less room than a bureau and will allow you to make the most of your small space. Get a rack that has a bottom tray so that you can store your shoes on it. The rack is going to take up the same amount of space, regardless of whether or not it has the tray. Make sure that you get the most out of any space that you can.
